The fencerows that define the patchwork of fields typical of small-scale farming in our area provide natural corridors and diverse habitats essential to wildlife. Fencerows also combat soil erosion; wind and crop damage; mitigate drought and flooding. Maintaining fencerows is an important way to support insect populations, including pollinators and maintain the population of native birds. Without fencerows, the quality and productivity of the land will decline.
